Piñatex® Performance Pineapple Leather
Piñatex® Performance Pineapple Leather
Piñatex pineapple leather is made from fibres extracted from pineapple leaves in the Philippines. The "Performance" line of Piñatex pineapple leather features a smooth finish and has a small pebble grain texture. It is a firm material at 2.5 mm thick. The "Performance" line is in the process of being phased out and replaced with a softer, more pliable line called "Performance Light", so there is limited stock remaining of this thicker Performance line of Piñatex. Details on the Piñatex Performance Light line can be found here.

Sustainability
Piñatex is a plant-based, non-woven material made from pineapple leaf fibre, which offers a sustainable and vegan textile made of 95% renewable resources. The pineapple leaf fibres used to create Piñatex are a by-product of the agriculture industry in the Philippine, where 27 million tonnes of pineapple leaf waste is produced annually. No extra land, water or pesticides are required to produce the raw material. Piñatex is REACH Compliant with no hazardous chemicals used in its production, and a PETA Certified vegan material. Piñatex production emits 2.69 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per square metre, which is 45% less than PU synthetic leather (4.81 KG of CO2 equivalent per square metre) and 90% less than animal leather (27.30 KG of CO2 equivalent per square metre). You can read more about how Piñatex is made here.
